Chautauqua County Judge John T. Ward has appointed Jeffrey Piazza, a veteran Jamestown attorney, as chairman of Ward's re-election campaign.
Piazza is a partner in Hall & Piazza, a Jamestown law firm located in the Hotel Jamestown building. Piazza received his bachelor of science from the University of Buffalo and his law degree from the University of Akron Law School. He is serving his fourth term as Kiantone town supervisor.
"During discussions with my campaign people, Jeff's name came up as an ideal chairman," Ward said. "I am the endorsed Republican candidate for county judge and Jeff is very active in the party. More importantly, I have known Jeff for many years. He has represented numerous clients in my court. He is a man of sound judgement and common sense whose advice during this election will be very valuable."
Ward served as Chautauqua County district attorney for 15 years and is ending his second term as Chautauqua County Court judge. Ward has presided over several high-profile cases during his 20-year career on the bench while handling one of the larger caseloads of any Superior Court judge in New York state.
"I have also received the endorsement of the county Conservative Party and have obtained more than enough signatures on the Independence (Party) petitions to be on the ballot for that line on Primary Day as well," Ward said. "Running in both the Conservative and Independence primaries will require a lot of work, and Jeff is ready to lend his talents to help me prevail in those contests."
"It is an honor and a privilege to be asked to coordinate the efforts to get this outstanding judge re-elected," Piazza said. "Judge Ward has not only done a tremendous job as county judge, dealing with one of the heaviest criminal caseloads in the state, but he has a reputation with defense attorneys and law enforcement as a fair, dedicated judge knowledgeable of the law and committed to justice for all involved in the criminal justice system. He is also a man of ethics and integrity - virtues that are essential in a judge. I am proud to be part of his re-election team. As the backgrounds and experience of the candidates become public during this campaign, I am sure the voters will see that the choice is clear and that John Ward is the obvious choice for the job."
