Donald A. Manning, 83, of Irving, N.Y. passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years and family. Don was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Sheridan, N.Y. to the late Marion and Erma Huer Manning. Don was the owner-operator of Manning Bros. Inc. for 47 years, where "His Boys" - Ray Manning, Larry Reynolds, John Manning, Frank Manning and Matthew Reynolds spent many hours learning Don's way of doing things.
Don's other devotion in life was to the Irving Volunteer Fire Department, where he had 65 years of dedicated service. Don was awarded the "Top Responder" for 2010. Don was Chairman of the Irving Fire District Commissioners for many years. He was also a member of the Hanover Fish and Game Club, Cattaraugus Tractor Club, a former member of the Town of Hanover Water & Sewer Board and a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1952-1954.
Don is survived by his loving wife Doris "Dorie" Smith Manning and his son-in-law Larry Reynolds; his grandchildren, Matthew (Michele) Reynolds of Forestville, N.Y. and Tonya Russo of Irving, N.Y.; his great-grandson. Noah "Little Sunshine" Reynolds; his brothers, Lester (Roslyn) Manning and Gerald (Becky) Manning; and sisters-in-law Norma (Punk) Manning and Marion Allison. Don is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Don is predeceased by his daughter Carolyn "Lynn" Reynolds; his brothers, Richard and Joseph Manning; and a sister, Shirley Manning Sanderson. No prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at the St. Columbans on the Lake Chapel, 2546 Lake Road (Rt. 5) Silver Creek, N.Y., Saturday morning at 11 a.m. A luncheon at the Irving Vol. Fire Dept. will immediately follow the memorial service.
