Driver Safety Courses Offered

AARP is holding three driver safety courses in August. The first will be at Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School, 25 Franklin St., Cattaraugus on Aug. 9-10. The second will be at the Salamanca Senior Center, 20 Main St., Salamanca on Aug. 13-14. The third will be at Blount Library, 5 N. Main St., Franklinville on Aug. 21 and 23. The cost is $17 for AARP members and $19 for nonmembers. August is also an Educator Appreciation Month so the cost for educators is only $5. To register for the class in Cattaraugus call 938-6247, in Salamanca call 945-3138, in Franklinville call 676-5715.

Lake Discussion Set For Thursday

BEMUS POINT - The Bemus Point Library will host a community discussion, "Chautauqua Lake, Then and Now," at 7 p.m. Thursday with Jane Conroe, a conservationist. The discussion will include information about the lake's health and what people can do to help. For more information, call 386-2274

Local Author To Hold Seminar

FREWSBURG - Jessie Andersen, local author and Frewsburg High School graduate, will be presenting a program at Myers Memorial Library on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the library's community room. Her program will be about the process of writing a book, getting it published and writing for teens. Andersen is the author of "At What Cost." The book is currently available as an e-book through Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and Astraeapress.com. It will be released in print in the near future. For more information please call 569-5515.

'Old Timers' To Meet Thursday

The Jamestown High School 'Old Timers' football reunion, featuring players from the 1950s and 1960s, will be held starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday at The Pub, 209 N. Main St., Jamestown. Players are invited to bring photos and share their memories of their playing days. No reservations are required.

Panama Board To Meet Monday

PANAMA - The Panama Central School Board of Education will hold its scheduled board meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. in the board room. This meeting is open to the public.

Rummage Sale Begins Friday

SOUTH DAYTON - The South Dayton United Methodist Church, 328 Pine St., South Dayton, will hold a giant rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, with a bag sale beginning at noon. A bake sale will also be featured both days.

Alpaca Open House Is Set

The Alpaca Experience at the Pen Cuckoo Alpaca Farm, 1754 Blockville Watts Flats Road, Ashville, off Route 474 west toward Panama, will host an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. The farm raises alpaca for fleece that is used to make fiber. The farm's two newest alpaca, AnnaGray and Ruby, will be shown while Penny and John Kent of the Lazy K Stables will demonstrate their grass-fed beef.
