The Lucy-Desi Center for Comedy will continue Lucy Fest today with an open invitation for musicians and the public to participate in the largest community rendition of the "I Love Lucy" theme song for an upcoming Barbara Walters special on ABC.
The Lucy World Games opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. at Tracy Plaza, 200 E. Third St., Jamestown. Musicians should arrive by 5:30 p.m.
Lead sheets and lyrics for the Lucy theme song are available at the Lucy Festival Headquarters in the lobby of the Reg Lenna Civic Center. The arrangement will be played in the key of F major. Participants are also encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters from "I Love Lucy."
The Lucy World Games will include moments from the most iconic "I Love Lucy" episodes, including grape-stomping and conveyer belt candy-wrapping. Anyone may participate in the World Games during Party on the Plaza, which features the live band Party of Nine and host Tammy Pescatelli, winner of Comedy Central's Stand-Up Showdown. The Party on the Plaza will also continue all day Saturday.
The opening ceremonies will be followed by the 8:30 p.m. Stand-Up Showcase with host and musical guest, Lucie Arnaz, at the Reg Lenna Civic Center theater. Arnaz, an Emmy-winning producer, singer, and actress, and the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, will host a night of rising comics as her father did as the first person to serve as both host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live" in February 1976.
Tony Deyo and Baron Vaughn will also be featured in the Stand-Up Showcase, and a LateNight comedy show in the Tropicana Room will be held afterward. Saturday will feature performances by the Story Pirates, with doors opening for the performance at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Reg Lenna Civic Center, a special live Lucy radio play with Gregg Oppenheimer, with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. at the Reg Lenna Civic Center, and Billy Gardell of CBS's "Mike and Molly," performing in the Reg Lenna Civic Center. Doors for Gardell's performance open at 7:30 p.m.
