Community Makes Exchange Student Feel Welcome

August 3, 2012
The Post-Journal

To the Readers' Forum:

Our family recently hosted an exchange student from Viadollid, Spain. It was our family's intention to show him as much of the city of Jamestown and the surrounding communities as we could during his four week visit. There are many people that went out of their way to make Alfonso's dreams come true while he was here. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our family and friends as well as to local merchants and numerous other people from our community. Thanks to all of you, he was overwhelmed with joy and affection for our town.

Due to the following people and enterprises: Mayor Sam Teresi, The Basket Company, the YMCA, Gaffar Adams Studio, The Lucy-Desi Museum, The Post-Journal, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Jackson Rohm, Infinity Performing Arts and Coach Pihlblad, Alfonso had the time of his life while he was staying with our family. This is due in large part to the wonderful Jamestown community.

Alfonso commended to me that he felt Jamestown was a very close community because of the way everyone reached out to him with kindness. He said that he would never forget the time he spent in Chautauqua County and would love to return to the area with his family.

When people say that Jamestown is boring and there is nothing to do here, I say boring is definitely the wrong word to use to describe our town. Just take a look around and take advantage of the many activities that await anyone willing to make a few phone calls to inquire about just what there is to do in Jamestown.

Our family will never forget the wonderful four weeks we spent with Alfonso and the kindnesses shown him while he was staying with our family.

Thank you.
