NILES, Ohio - Strong pitching by Ramon Del Orbe, coupled with the hitting of Matt Juengel, allowed the Jamestown Jammers to even their record at 16-16 in the New York-Pennsylvania League on Saturday at Eastwood Field.
Del Orbe pitched six innings and permitted just one hit hits while Juengel had three hits and drove in three runs as the Jammers prevailed over Mahoning Valley (16-17) , 5-2 in the Pinckney Division.
The only hit given up by Del Orbe (1-3) was a leadoff single by Charlie Valerio in the third inning. Beau Wright and Frankie Reed worked the final three innings and yielded just a single by Andrew Campbell.
Juengel started the scoring in the first inning by singling home Jesus Solorzano, who doubled for the fourth time this season off Jake Sisco (0-2).
Kentrell Dewitt blasted his second home run to right field to give the Jammers a 2-0 edge in the second.
In the third, back-to-back doubles by Juancito Martinez and Michael Main scored one run and Juengel's single delivered another for a 4-0 Jamestown lead.
Juengel got his first home run off Luis Encarnacion with one out in the eighth. That was the only hit off Encarnacion in three innings.
The Scrappers scored their only two runs in the seventh off Wright. Erik Gonzalez walked with one out and Campbell beat out an infield out and when Wright threw it away for an error it allowed Gonzalez to score.
Campbell went all the way to third and scored on Hunter Jones' infield out.
Reed gained his first save for the Jammers by retiring all six batters in two innings, including four by strikeout.
Jamestown seeks to complete the sweep with 5:05 p.m. game today. Then, the Jammers are home at Diethrick Park at 5:05 p.m. Monday to complete a suspended game with Auburn followed by a seven-inning game.
