To the Readers' Forum:
In fairness to the director of Prendergast Library, I would like to make a correction to my letter that was published Sunday, July 15, on the controversial book, "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Together with several other people who read the original article in The Post-Journal, I was under the impression that Prendergast Library had purchased 20 copies of the book. This is incorrect, and I apologize for my error.
The 20 copies were purchased by some of the member libraries of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System and can be found in various libraries in the two-county system. There are no copies of this book in Prendergast Library.
The original intent of my letter was to point out that the book collection policy of the library has changed from the former one based mainly on quality to the current policy based more on popularity. This is borne out by the director's statement to The Post-Journal that "...regardless of reviews this book did fit into the collection development policy, because people were asking for it."
