July 18, 2012
The Post-Journal

CHAUTAUQUA - Going off-road didn't keep a 16-year-old Mayville youth from a speeding ticket and several other charges Saturday.

The youth was charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving without a license and several other vehicle and traffic citations at 4:08 a.m. Saturday. According to a police report, deputies tried to pull over a speeding vehicle on Hannum Road in Chautauqua. The vehicle sped away and led the deputy on a 10-minute pursuit around the area before going off the road, through a field and onto a snowmobile trail in a wooded area.

The deputy ended his pursuit, but the vehicle was quickly found disabled on the trail.

The youth was released into the custody of his mother and will be in court later. The New York State Police and the Westfield Police Department assisted in the investigation.
