STOCKTON - A Stockton boy is fighting for his life after an early morning crash Friday on Barnes Road.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department and Stockton Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle accident at 2:14 a.m. Upon arrival, 17-year-old Brenden M. Winder was found to be badly injured and trapped in his vehicle. Deputies were able to gain access to Winder and provide aid until EMS arrived. Stockton Fire Department crews used the Jaws of Life to remove Winder from the vehicle and he was flown to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. via Starflight.
Following an investigation, deputies discovered that Winder was traveling south on Barnes Road at a high rate of speed, went off the west side of the road, crossed back over the road and then struck a tree on the east side of the road.
Winder will be charged in Stockton Town Court with driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable, failure to stay in lane, failure to keep right and operating after 9 p.m. on a DJ class license.
