John A. Steed, 59, of 9 Adams St., Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly at 3:20 p.m. Friday (July 6, 2012) in his home.
An area resident for most of his life he was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Middlesex, N.J., a son of the late Hugh J. and June Helen Collyer Steed.
John was a 1970 graduate of Jamestown High School and also received his associate degree from Jamestown Community College.

He was currently employed by Superior Steel Door and Trim in Jamestown. In earlier years, he had worked for Valeo Engine Cooling, Jamestown Metal Products and Cummins Engine Company.
He was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a church musician. He was also active in the Infinity Music Program, a member of the Jamestown Rotary Club and served as a volunteer for the St. Susan Center. He was known for his artistic ability and was also an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his wife the former Rebecca Ann Dieffenbach; two brothers, Hugh J. "Bud" (Priscilla) Steed and David A. Steed, both of Jamestown; a sister, Kristine A. (Mike) McGuire; and a nephew, Jacob McGuire, both of Buffalo; his stepmother, Carol Steed Williams; and stepfather, Richard A. "Dick" Williams of Jamestown.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas H. Steed, who died April 12, 1988.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Leroy Walker, pastor, will officiate.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
