Family Table Fills A Void

Ministry Will Distribute To Those In Need

A new food ministry is filling the space left in Jamestown when Angel Food Ministries closed last fall.

Family Table Food Ministries is a national food distributor dedicated to providing grocery relief to families across America.

Floris Dunn, Family Table coordinator, said it is very similar to Angel Food. She was also the coordinator for Angel Food when it closed in October due to economic and market conditions.

"I've heard so many people say, 'Oh, gee, Angle Food went under. Now what am I going to do," Mrs. Dunn said. "The prices in the grocery stores are getting higher and higher every week and people can't afford to pay the high cost of food. People need better prices."

After Angel Food closed shop, Mrs. Dunn began searching for another food ministry. She started working with Family Table in March, and the first distribution in the area was Saturday.

"When Angel Food left, we had about 100 to 150 families (ordering)," she said. "For Family Table, we have probably only eight to 10 orders right now, but we are just starting out. The sooner the word gets out the faster it's going to grow."

Mrs. Dunn said that hopefully later this month, they'll be able to accept food stamps. At the present time, they are only taking checks or cash.

"It's a way that food stamp money could be put to good use," she said. She added that another goal is that people will be able to order online by August.

Family Table provides a new food menu every month, like Angel Food did, which features a family box for $35, a convenience meal box for $25 and five different value boxes that vary in price and contents. The orders must be prepaid for and will be delivered once a month at the Gateway Center.

Community Helping Hands is the only host and distribution site for the new food ministry. Mrs. Dunn said she is trying to get more churches and organizations involved and to become host sites.

Those we are interested in ordering from Family Table should contact Mrs. Dunn at 484-8824 or go to Community Helping Hands on 31 Water St. For more information about the food ministry or to view the menu, visit www.familytablefoodministries.com.
