Gordon H. “Pete” Johnson

Gordon H. "Pete" Johnson, 85, of Roland Road, died Friday, June 29, 2012, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Erie, Pa.

He was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Warren, Pa., a son of the late Gilbert and Anna Gustafson Johnson.

Following graduation from Lander High School he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 during World War II.

Prior to his retirement he was employed by Central Tractor as a sales clerk for 10 years. He was also a self-employed carpet installer and earlier worked for Cornell and Rein.

He was a member of Jamestown Community Chapel and former member of Busti Church of God. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved the Lord.

Surviving are his wife the former Betty Jean Hitchcock, whom he married Jan. 28, 1950; five children: Gilbert H. Johnson of Ellery Center, Dennis G. (Patricia) Johnson of Jamestown, Janice L. (Richard) Lane of Sumter, S.C., Jean (Bruce) Agens of Lottsville, Pa., and Gayle (Randy) James of Lugoff, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Allen Johnson, and a sister, Dorothy Martin.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Keefe and the Rev. Jeremy Rogerson will officiate.

Burial will be in Foster Cemetery, Lander, Pa.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday.
