Alta Mae Watrous, 93, formerly of Corry, Pa., died at the Heritage Park Reha-bilitation and Skilled Nurs-ing Facility, Jamestown, N.Y., on Friday. June 29, 2012.
She was born in Temple-ton, Pa., on May 20, 1919, a daughter of the late Harry and Maude Hicks Nichols.
Alta moved to Corry as a young girl where she was raised and educated. Fol-lowing her marriage, her main priority was raising and caring for her family. She resided in Corry until she moved to Lakewood, NY., in 1996, and she later moved to Gerry, N.Y.
She was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Corry, and at-tended Gerry Free Metho-dist Church in Gerry, N.Y. Alta enjoyed playing cards and reading. She also taught basic bridge at the Senior Citizens Center in Corry for several years.
In addition to her parents, Alta was preceded in death on Jan. 17, 1991, by her husband, Lyle E. "Bud" Watrous, whom she married Aug. 24, 1936, in Ripley, N.Y.; a son, Harris E. Watrous; four sisters: Hilda Besson, Berdena Hepler, Neva Applebee, and Lois; two brothers: James and Lawrence Ni-chols; and a grandson, Bruce A. Lucas.
Alta is survived by a daughter, Joyce E. Lucas of Jamestown, N.Y.; a son, James E. Watrous and his wife, Joyce of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter- in-law, Patricia Watrous of Jamestown, N.Y.; and a brother, Donald Nichols and his wife, Linnie of Snowflake, Ariz. She is also survived by 10 grandchil-dren, many great and great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visita-tion.
A graveside service at Pine Grove Cemetery will be held at a later date. The Rev. Sam Shreffler, cha-plain at Heritage Retire-ment Campus, Jamestown, NY., will officiate.
