Jefferson Students Create Bookends

June 28, 2012
The Post-Journal

Jefferson Middle School sixth-graders Grace Arrance and Christina McMillan are pictured with their Rainforest bookends created in Lisa Corey's art class. The winning bookend was sent to the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES School Library System's sixth annual Book Ending Excitement Contest. The students' creativity helped generate $50 in new library books for Jefferson's library. Julie Livengood, library media specialist, teamed with Mrs. Corey to have students create bookends that relate to a theme. Students submitted a written proposal to Mrs. Corey supporting why their theme was appropriate for the contest. Students created a variety of bookends including sport-related, sharks, skateboarding, dogs and cats and a "Where's Waldo" theme. Each pair of students also had to include books from the Jefferson library which conveyed their theme in their bookend display.
