CONEWANGO VALLEY - Robert J. Snyder, 81, 12036 Myers Road, Conewango Valley, N.Y., passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.

He was born Aug. 23, 1930, in South Dayton, the son of the late Louis and Iva Bewley Snyder.

He attended school at the former South Dayton High School. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Snyder was a 35-plus year employee of Spartan Construction in Gowanda, N.Y., where he was a welder. His memberships included Circle of the Soul Fellowship in Russell, Pa., Local 17 Operating Engineers Union of Buffalo and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2273 in Randolph, N.Y.

He is survived by two daughters: Kathleen Raynor and her husband, Douglas of Conewango Valley, Debra Hunt and her husband, Tim of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren: Jennifer Raynor, Kristina Peru and her husband, Paul, Justin Raynor and his wife, Cindy and Heather Latshaw; five great-grandchildren: Matthew and Amanda Peru, Dylan Bentley and Zackary and Olivia Towne.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Alger Snyder, whom he married July 11, 1951, in Cottage, N.Y., and who preceded him on Jan. 12, 2004; a great-grandson, Anthony Consier; a brother, George Snyder; and sisters: Edna Nichols and Arlene Hess.

An informal celebration of life memorial will be hosted by the family at 6 p.m. Thursday (June 28, 2012) on the family farm, 12036 Myers Road (off Route 241) in Conewango Valley, NY. Please call 358-4670 for questions or directions.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Van Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph, N.Y. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 1914 Colvin Blvd, Tonawanda, NY 14150-6973.
