To the Readers' Forum:
Cuba Lake has installed a new sewer that surrounds the entire lake and is piped to the treatment plant that does not discharge into the lake. The cost for the high pressure system is reasonable, and the hook-up fee is probably less than the cost of proper maintenance of the septic systems.
Why are we not doing this to the third of the properties that empty their septic systems into Chautauqua Lake?
The nutrients and pollution entering the lake would be greatly reduced.
