Charlene E. Sandstrom

Charlene E. Sandstrom, 85, formerly of Panama, NY, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Saturday (June 23, 2012) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

A lifelong area resident she was born November 10, 1926 in Panama, N.Y. a daughter of the late Erwin and Georgia Shannon Sturges.

She was a graduate of the Panama Central School and was a member of the Pana-ma United Methodist Church.

She and her late husband Bill owned and operated Sandy's Dairy Farm in Ash-ville for many years. Fol-lowing dairy farming they owned and operated Sandstrom's Egg Farm until their retirement.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She also loved her animals, especial-ly her dog "Buffy" who provided much comfort to her following the passing of her husband. She en-joyed cooking for her fami-ly and friends, playing cards, gardening, and help-ing her children and grandchildren whenever needed. She was also an ex-cellent softball player in her younger years as a member of the Niobe Grange League.

Surviving is a son, James E. (Audrey Walrod) Sandstrom of Mayville, N.Y.; a daughter, Shirley (George) Hedlund of Ash-ville, N.Y.; eight grandchil-dren: Sandra (Scott) Bailey of Celoron, James Sandstrom of Aurora, IN, Shawn Sandstrom of Elgin Pa., Abbey Dyke of Muskegon, MI, Molly (Chris) Anderson of West-field, N.Y., Shari (Russell) Jamieson of Jamestown, Shelly (Gary) Stevens of Hedgesville, W.VA and Darlene (Greg) Toole of Brockport, N.Y. She also enjoyed her visits with Audrey's children, Telaney Walrod and Trinadee Bunce. She is also sur-vived by eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a brother, David J. Sturges of Jamestown.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William A. Sandstrom whom she mar-ried August 17, 1946 and who died August 29, 2000; a great grandson, Chase William Anderson; a daughter, Jodell Sandstrom; a sister, Eva Leamer; and two brothers Edwin and Merle Sturges.

The funeral will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, chaplain of Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Road Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
