Opening Week Entertainment Offers All-Ages Amphitheater Performances

CHAUTAUQUA The first week of Chautauqua Institution's season features a wide assortment of performances for visitors. Swingle Singers perform for the season's first Community Appreciation Night on Tuesday.

Enjoy free admission to the grounds today and attend an Amphitheater performance by the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus at 2:30 p.m. Access to the grounds is always free on Sundays. Parking is also free on Sundays until 1:30 p.m.

Pablo Ziegler Classical Tango Quartet comes to the Amphitheater on Monday at 8:15 p.m. Grammy-winner Pablo Ziegler leads a quartet featuring piano, bandoneon, cello and double bass in arrangements of his own compositions as well as music by other tango legends.

Tuesday evening, Swingle Singers performs at 8:15 p.m. for the first Community Appreciation Night of the season. Offering a variety of music from jazz, to Latin to pop and rock, this a cappella group has traveled throughout the world and are the winners of five Grammy Awards. On Community Appreciation Nights, evening passes can be purchased for $18.

The Family Entertainment Series (FES) will begin Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Amphitheater with wildlife expert and co-host of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, Peter Gros. He will share his travel experiences and insight into the animal world. He highlights his adventures with video clips and bloopers, and also introduces friendly exotic animals to the audience.

Chautauqua Dance Salon will perform in the Amphitheater this week. On Thursday, the North Carolina Dance Theatre in Residence and associate artistic director Mark Diamond will present an evening of intimate dance and music at 8:15 p.m.

On Friday at 8:15 p.m. in the Amphitheater, Chautauqua Institution will present Celebrate the 60s with The Righteous Brothers' Bill Medley and Gary Puckett and The Union Gap. Medley and Puckett will share their classic songs such as "Unchained Melody" and "This Girl Is A Woman Now" for the audience to enjoy.

The Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra will finish up the week's entertainment Saturday at 8:15 p.m. Pianist Peter Serkin will perform with the CSO under the direction of guest conductor Roberto Minczuk, music director of the Calgary Philharmonic.

Tickets for Amphitheater performances are $40. On Community Appreciation Nights, ticket prices are reduced to $18 and Family Entertainment Series performances are always free.
