To the Readers' Forum:
I would like to take the opportunity to commend the town of Ellington for putting bike/skateboard ramps in the town square for the children to use.
I see them being used frequently as I drive around the square. I think sometimes we (older generation) forget that when we were young the town provided the young people with bus rides to the roller arena, swimming at the state park, and "recreation" night in the elementary gym, and besides that, kids were being hired to cut grass, and help with haying.
Today, with budget cuts, and stricter regulations for hiring youth, and the internet, kids are not getting the physical exercise that we did in years gone by.
It is unfortunate that some people equate skateboarders with juvenile delinquents; skateboarding is a viable form of exercise, and again, thank you town of Ellington for recognizing this and letting the kids know that you care.
