A program to celebrate Flag Day was held at the recent meeting of Ross Grange.
The flag was presented by Gordon Carlberg and Winston and Valerie Bartholomew. "I Pledge Allegiance" by Red Skelton was read by Mary Walker. What the stars, stripes and colors symbolize was given by Opal Sprague. Barb Holman told of her trip to Virginia where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. Patriotic songs were sung and a quiz on Presidents was enjoyed. Mrs. Holman was pianist for the evening.
The Bartholomews showed the correct way to fold the American flag, with Robert Goodwin giving what each fold represents.
The charter was draped in memory of Sylvia Holmquist. The committee to write a Resolution of Respect is Mrs. Sprague, Mrs. Walker and Doris Overend.
Robert Goodwin reported on the Memorial Day float "A Garden of Memories." Plans are under way for the exhibit booth at the Chautauqua County Fair.
Thank-yous were received for donations to the Fluvanna Library and the after-prom/senior vigil committee of Falconer School. Steven Overend and Matt Overend sent letters of thanks for money received for their essays about their 4-H animals.
The county Pomona Grange will meet Saturday at Villenova Grange. Committees will meet at 11 a.m. with lunch served by the hosts at noon, followed by an auction and business meeting.
Ed Luttrell, national grange master from of Sandy, Ore., will travel through New York state. He will be at Fredonia Grange No. 1 on Saturday, June 23, with a presentation at 7 p.m. All grange members and friends are welcome to attend.
The next meeting of Ross Grange will be June 25 with election of officers.
