Local performer Shannon Nixon will provide live entertainment from noon to 1 p.m. at this week's Univera Healthcare Downtown Jamestown Farmers Market on Friday.

Nixon won Chautauqua's Got Talent in 2010, produced a musical comedy "A Night on The Town" being held at The Spire Theater today, has made several guest appearances at benefit concerts put on by Big Time Productions, and has also directed, produced and headlined other various productions. Singing primarily jazz, Nixon also includes ballads and classic rock in her repertoire.

In addition to live entertainment, Big Pitt's BBQ will join the vendor lineup. Indulge in barbecue ribs, pulled pork, potato salad and baked beans. Elegant Edibles Catering will also return with a full lunch menu.

"Opening day was a huge success with the new location, live entertainment, food demonstration, and new vendors," said Tiffani Conti, DJDC special projects manager. "Everyone was very pleased with the market and what we have done and are continuing to work on. We are looking forward to the continued success of the market this season and encourage everyone to take advantage of what the market has to offer."

The downtown market takes place every Friday and will continue through Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Foundry Alley, next to the Dr. Lillian Vitanza Ney Renaissance Center (corner of West Third and Washington streets).

Market patrons can purchase farm-fresh produce, fresh-frozen meats, cheese, eggs, goat milk fudge, homemade baked goods and other specialty products including honey, maple syrup, jams and jellies. The market continues to look for high-quality artisan vendors and regional wineries to participate in the weekly market. For more information call 664-2477 or visit discoverjamestown.com.
