"Assessing, Treatment Planning and Referring Clients With Chemical Dependency Issues" will be offered through the Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave., Fredonia.
Barbara A. Kubera will present the training.
Those attending will be better able to recognize their own style of interviewing and evaluating clients who present with chemical dependency issues. Defining their interviewing style, reviewing the background in the DSM IV as it relates to a chemical dependency diagnosis will be part of the focus of this training. Clinicians will be able to identify barriers to obtaining the necessary and accurate background which will be key to making a determination if their client is in need of a referral or an admission to a chemical dependency program.
The course is suitable for those seeking professional credentialing as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS). The 3 hours CASAC (Sec. 3) CPP (Sec. 4) are approved by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services.
CASAC offers a number of professional training opportunities throughout the year. Individualized on-site training, depending upon staff needs, is available. All trainings can be designed either as an in-service training, conference or workshop.
The fee is $35 and pre-registration is required. Community members interested in the topic are welcome to attend. To register, call Kathleen Colby, director of training services, at 664-3608, email kjcolby@casacweb.org or visit www.casacweb.org.
