Setting New Goals

Agriculture In Spotlight For June 21 Comprehensive Plan Meeting

June 12, 2012
The Post-Journal

The second public forum on the Cattaraugus County Comprehensive Plan will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Mansfield Town Hall, 7691 Toad Hollow Road, Little Valley.

The topic of this forum will be agriculture.

Cattaraugus County is home to a diverse agricultural industry.

There are six agricultural districts containing more than 236,000 acres, about 30 percent of the county's total land area, excluding Allegany State Park.

The county is seeking the public's input to the planning process that will develop a new comprehensive plan and vision of the future.

The purpose of the plan is to provide a blueprint for the future growth and development of the county in the areas of land use, economic development, agriculture, the environment, transportation, infrastructure, and arts and culture. Through the process, the county seeks to establish clear goals and achievable objectives that will lead the county to become the best living environment for our citizens.

Other public forums have been set, with the following topics:

Thursday, July 12, 6 p.m., location TBD - Environment & Natural Resources;

Thursday, Aug. 9 6 p.m., location TBD - Transportation and Infrastructure;

Thursday, Sept. 20 6 p.m., location TBD - Arts and Culture; and

Thursday, Oct. 18 6 p.m., location TBD - Land Use.

Light refreshments will be served.
