GOWANDA - Weston Ley allowed just one hit over 6 innings as No. 1 Fredonia drubbed No. 2 Roy-Hart, 8-1, Tuesday in the Section 6 Class B-2 baseball championship game.
A.J. Riforgiat got Fredonia started with a leadoff walk in the third inning and Nick Hart and Trent Thompson followed with consecutive perfect bunt singles. With Zack Buckley at the plate, R-H starter Ryan Metz uncorked a wild pitch which allowed Riforgiat to score. Buckley added a sacrifice fly to score Hart and give Fredonia a 2-0 lead.
With a runner on third, Connor Farnham hit a short fly to left field, and Coach Vince Gullo opted not to send Thompson home.
After Ley drew a walk, Jude Gardner and Brett Lutz rewarded Gullo's faith in his lineup as each came through with RBI base knocks. Lutz's hit was misplayed in center field and allowed Gardner to score all the way from first base as Fredonia opened up a 5-0 lead.
Thompson and Gardner each added RBI doubles to pad Fredonia's lead.
Hart and Thompson each had two hits, a walk and two runs scored at the top of Fredonia's lineup.
