"It's a great day when philanthropic endeavors come together to encourage an even greater level of philanthropy," says Cristie Herbst, WCA Foundation board chair, as she discussed a new partnership between LINKS Charity and the WCA Foundation.
LINKS Charity was co-founded by Sondra Anderson and Mary Blair in 1991. Their commitment and passion along with many benevolent volunteers, particularly Allen Short who served as executive director for the first 19 years, has resulted in LINKS Charity contributing in excess of $850,000 to local cancer care efforts.
In an effort to continue their legacy and to provide an avenue of support that will grow in perpetuity, LINKS Charity established the LINKS Charity Cancer Care Fund in tribute to pioneers Sondra Anderson, Mary Blair and Allen Short with a $10,000 gift to the WCA Foundation. This donor-advised endowment fund will provide on-going, annual support to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of cancer at WCA Hospital.

"We are so privileged to be honored in this manner," said Allen Short. "I trust that many will thoughtfully consider giving to this endowment fund year after year, as well as including it in their estate plans. I can't think of a better investment in the future than supporting cancer care here at WCA Hospital."
"We are thrilled and touched," says Mary Blair. "The three of us are extremely grateful for the current LINKS Charity volunteers who have taken the helm to further a cause that we all so passionately believe in."
"LINKS Charity remains committed to enhancing local cancer care," says Brad Van Riper, senior vice president for Truck-Lite and current executive director for LINKS Charity. "Through the creation of the LINKS Charity Cancer Care Fund, we are now able to provide individuals and businesses with another avenue of support that will have a long-lasting impact on cancer diagnosis and treatment here in our community."
In 2011, LINKS Charity celebrated its 20th anniversary by raising a record $112,000 to support local cancer care. Now in its 21st year, LINKS Charity is continuing its rich tradition of quality and philanthropy with its annual LPGA golf pro-am, golf scramble, banquet and auction on August 6 and 7, and the second annual LINKS Pink Walk on October 6.
Spearheaded by lead sponsor Truck-Lite and major sponsors Cummins, United Refining Company, and Alstar Ambulance, with associate sponsors Veracity Benefits, Jamestown Savings Bank, and The Bilicki Law Firm, LINKS Charity recently announced that it is once again taking a leadership role in the local fight against breast cancer by making a $300,000 pledge toward the purchase of 3-D Breast Tomosynthesis. This technology will compliment LINKS Charity's most recent gift of $275,000 to aid in the diagnosis of breast cancer through the purchase of Digital Mammography which is now operational in the WCA Center for Imaging & Medical Arts.
Serving the region by supporting the health care initiatives of WCA Hospital is the mission of WCA Foundation. With a mirrored purpose, WCA Hospital and the WCA Foundation strive to address the major health care needs of our community. Specific areas of need are supported through grants from restricted and unrestricted named funds. The WCA Foundation now manages a portfolio in excess of $11 million. Since its inception in 1982, more than $5.5 million in income has been granted by the Foundation to support WCA Hospital and its affiliate services.
