Jamestown senior Ben Whitney has signed a scholarship to play football at Gannon University. In front, from left, are Whitney and his mother, Darcy. In back are Jamestown football coach Tom Langworthy and principal Mike McElrath. Whitney was the Section 6 Class AA co-defensive player of the year for the 2011 season. He was named to the All-Western New York second team and the state Class AA fourth team. Whitney led the Red Raiders in sacks with seven, was the co-leader in recovered fumbles with five and was fourth in tackles with 68. On offense, in was second in pass receiving with 23 catches for 266 yards and also rushed 20 times for 94 yards and six touchdowns. He'll be joining Red Raider teammate Jake Dwaileebe, who also signed with Gannon.
