Lady Cougars Upset Frewsburg In Div. 2

SINCLAIRVILLE - Kristi Zink swung a hot bat as Cassadaga Valley upset Frewsburg and the Lady Cougars need to win its final three games to get a tie with the Bears for the Division 2 girls softball title.

Zink did all her damage in the first two innings with a two-run triple in the first and a two-run single in the second as the Lady Cougars (7-2, 8-6) edged Frewsburg (10-2), 7-6.

Frewsburg trailed 7-1 after the first two innings but stormed back and got three in the seventh to bring it within a win. With runners on second and third, second baseman Ashley Carroll made a game-saving catch to end the game.

Courtney Vahl went the distance for the win, allowing seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Sam Mott also gave up seven hits for Frewsburg with eight strikeouts, a walk and hit four.

Zink had a double to wind up with three hits for the Lady Cougars.

Mott and Annie Berg led the Bears with two hits each with Mott each drilling a two-run triple.

PORTVILLE EDGES C-LV

PORTVILLE - A wild pitch scored the winning run in the last of the seventh inning when Portville nipped Cattaraugus-Little Valley (8-3. 14-3), 6-5.

Stefani Sosnowski belted a triple for Portville and then a wild pitch followed to give the Lady Panthers the victory.

Sara Crandall was the losing pitcher, permitting seven hits with eight strikeouts and two hit batters.

Lisel Reickert had three hits and Emily Fuller recorded a RBI double and triple for C-LV. Katie Reynolds tied things up for C-LV at 5-5 with a sixth inning RBI single.

Albanie Stives got the win, yielding 10 hits with six strikeouts and no walks. She contributed a two-run triple and Justina Zink a two-run double while also for Portville it was Kayla Welty and Kammie McCracken with two hits. One of Welty's hits was a double.
