The Post-Journal

On June 7, the Harmony Senior Citizens will hold a chicken and biscuit fundraiser for its members at 5 p.m. in the Panama United Methodist Church. The price of the dinner is $6. Advance paid reservations must be made to Lester Wevers, 782-3131, no later than Monday, May 28. The food and decoration committee include Joanne Fisher, Eloise Smith, Jean Vanderkooi, Barb DeStevens, Kay Anderson, Peachy James, Lester Wevers and Sally Hagg. Officers will provide pies for dessert.

Recently, the seniors met for a soup and sub dinner. Pauline Edsall opened with an inspirational reading followed by the flag salute and dinner prayer.

Birthdays were celebrated by Bea Emules, Barbara Hart, Rosalie Logue, Jeanette Nord, Kathy Smith, Carol Williams, Dick Williams and Dorothy Lindstrom, eldest in attendance. Eleanor and Everett King and Barbara and Duane Thorpe celebrated anniversaries.

Following dinner, a memorial service was conducted to honor those who passed away in the last year. Pauline Edsall read "Life Is But a Stopping Place" and candles were lit to honor Sandy James, Bob Johnston, Judy LeFebvre, Mike Emules Jr. and Arlene LaBarbera.

A business meeting followed. A chicken barbecue is planned for July. Price will be $7 per person. Reservations must be made and dinners paid for at the June meeting. If paid reservations are not made in advance, those attending without a reservation may not get a meal. Instead of music entertainment, the group decided to have a Chinese auction. Donations of gifts for the auction are encouraged. Donated gifts should be new items.

Panama Central School will hold the alumni banquet on Saturday, June 16, at the Rowdy Rooster. Those classes to be honored include 1942, 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1987, 1992, 2002 and 2012.

Dottie Enlow gave a trip report. There is still space available for African Lion Safari, scheduled for May 23. Interested persons should contact her. The bus will leave Panama at 6:15 a.m. and return about 7:00 p.m. Those going on the trip must have a passport or New York state enhanced drivers' license. There are still spaces available for the trip to Warther Carving Museum on July 24 and the Mystery Trip on Sept. 24.

Pauline Edsall announced that seven members presently swim at the Panama Central School pool each Monday through Friday from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. Anyone interested in swimming in May is encouraged to attend.
