RED HOUSE - Two people were taken to local hospitals following a tractor-trailer rollover in the town of Red House on Friday.
At 4 p.m., Ricardo Roman Jr., 29, of 541 Withe Ave., Brooklyn, was driving a Toyota Prius owned by Enterprise Rental Car eastbound on Interstate 86 when he moved into the passing lane and struck the front end of a tractor-trailer driven by Robert J. Winchell, 47, of Wellsville.
Winchell lost control of the tractor-trailer, which flipped over and landed on top of the Prius, blocking the entire eastbound lane of traffic when it came to rest. Some of the approximately 40,000 pounds of metal shavings that the tractor-trailer was carrying spilled onto the road.
Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Roman was charged with moving from lane unsafely, which he will answer to in Red House Town Court.
The New York State Parks Police, New York State Police, Salamanca Police Department, Seneca Nation Marshalls Department, Seneca Nation Hazmat/Spill Response Team, Killbuck Volunteer Fire Department, Seneca Nation Volunteer Fire Department, Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department and Randolph Volunteer Fire Department all assisted the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department at the scene.
