The Center for Family Unity and the Cattaraugus County Employees Benevolent Association have teamed up to encourage residents to help stop child abuse in the area with a prominent billboard that simply states "Help Stop Child Abuse."
The billboard is located on U.S. Route 219 North in Great Valley and was designed by the WildeArt Company. Many other events are happening during April and May to bring attention to the problem of child abuse and to support the Center for Family Unity's prevention and intervention programs. Teddy Bear Jars for donations are located at many businesses in the area, and paper teddy bears may be purchased for a $1 donation at Parkview Market in Salamanca.
Harley-Davidson of Jamestown, located on Route 394 in Falconer, will be the starting point for the third annual motorcycle dice run on Saturday, April 28. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., with kickstands down at 11 a.m. Riders and their passengers will go from Harley-Davidson to the Kennedy exit on I-86 and south to Ivory Road, then to West Perimeter Road. They will return to I-86 and exit onto Route 280 South to Willow Bay Campground for the first stop of the day. Riders will then follow Route 21 South to Route 59 East to the Bradford Airport. From there, they will go to Smethport and Eldred and up to Cuba, N.Y., on Route 305.
"This is a beautiful ride through the hills of northwestern Pennsylvania and New York state," said John Cappellini, a board member at the center.
The ride will end at Moonwinks Restaurant in Cuba, where a buffet dinner will be served and prizes will be awarded for high roll, low roll and middle roll. Prizes for the dice run will be a cruise on the Summer Wind, an overnight at the Holiday Inn Express in Salamanca, and $100 cash. A 50/50 drawing will also be held, and music will be provided by Scott Warner and Company. Many local businesses are supporting the dice run with their donations of gift certificates, according to Donna Chubon, event coordinator.
Participant fees $20 for riders, $10 for passengers, and $12 for the dinner. Registration forms are available at many businesses or by calling Chubon at 358-2521 or 485-1349. Proceeds will benefit programming in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties.
