April 2, 2012
The Post-Journal

Parents for Parents, a support group for family members of people with special needs, will hold its next meeting from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at The Resource Center's administrative offices, 200 Dunham Ave., Jamestown.

Michael Tobio, a life skills facilitator at Chautauqua Opportunities, will be the speaker. He will discuss the differences and unique strengths that men and women bring to child rearing, as well as the effects a positive male role model can have on childhood development.

Parents, caregivers and all who support individuals with challenging behaviors are welcome to attend the workshop and support group. The regular parent support meeting will follow the presentation. Light refreshments will be served.

Parents for Parents is a monthly parent/caregiver support group organized by The Resource Center and Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. The group, directed by a licensed master social worker, connects and supports families of individuals with special needs. The group offers support, information, speakers and presentations on topics pertaining to parents and caregivers in Chautauqua County. Meetings are an opportunity for parents and caregivers to come together to discuss common triumphs, challenges, issues and concerns.

The Jamestown group meets the first Wednesday of each month. There also is a North County parent support group that meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Connections North Center, 10825 Bennett Road, Route 60, Dunkirk. Tobio also will be the speaker for the April 11 Dunkirk meeting.

New members are welcome to join Parents for Parents. Meetings are free. Parents desiring assistance with child care, respite or transportation should call in advance to make arrangements. Those planning to attend are asked to call ahead so that organizers can have enough refreshments and children's activities on hand.

For more information, call 661-1421 for the Jamestown meeting or 366-5661, ext. 226, for the Dunkirk meeting.
