Josephine J. Burkey, 97, of Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing, formerly of Frewsburg, died Friday (March 30, 2012) at Heritage Village.
She was born Jan. 6, 1915, in Ligonier, Pa., the daughter of Edward and Julia Soupart Diethrick.
She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Frewsburg.

She loved and enjoyed her family - especially her grandchildren - gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, and was very artistic.
Josephine is survived by two daughters: Betty (Fred) Puleo of Jamestown and Janet (Don) Gustafson of Frewsburg; two sons: Donald and Kenneth (Linda) Burkey of Warren, Ohio; 13 grandchildren: Donald, Barry and Kevin Burkey, Debra Emch, Kenneth Burkey Jr., and Brian Burkey of Warren, Ohio, Michelle Kianos of Akron, Ohio, Fred Puleo Jr., Steven Puleo and Julie Allison all of Jamestown, Jeffrey Puleo of Lakewood, Christine Capozzi of Olean, and Laura Gray of Berlin Center, Ohio; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Regis J. Burkey whom she married Nov. 23, 1932, and who died Nov. 23, 2001, five brothers; Frank, Walter, John, Russell, and Gust Diethrick, and a daughter-in-law, Greta Burkey.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. The Rev. Darrell Duffy, pastor of St. James and Our Lady of Victory, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
