Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman was recently recognized as the one of the largest scrap metal companies in North America.
The ranking, conducted by trade media group Recycling Today, has the company listed as 18th on the list among both public and private companies in the United States and Canada.
Ben Weitsman of Jamestown, formerly Weinstein Co., located at 610 W. Eighth St,. was acquired in 2011 and is one of 11 locations for Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman. The company processes more than 800,000 tons of ferrous and 150 million pounds of nonferrous per year. Company officials say Ben Weitsman is on track to hit its goal of $1 billion dollars in annual debt-free sales.
