BOCES Cosmetology Graduate Hosts Students

March 18, 2012
The Post-Journal

Kyla Johnson, owner of Forbici Hair Design in Jamestown, was recently appointed to the regional educator position for Enjoy Professional Hair Care, a brand of hair products sold nationwide.

A Jamestown native and graduate of the BOCES Cosmetology program in 2006, Johnson will now help oversee more than 100 other product educators in the nation as she continues to operate her own salon locally.

Enjoy Professional Hair Care is based in Oceanside, Calif., and has served hair salons, hairdressers and other industry professionals nationwide since 2002. Enjoy focuses on program guides, consumer friendly products and places a high importance on education. The company stresses that teaching hairdressers the proper and healthy ways to use their products are just as important as selling the products.

"I'm very excited that I've been given the opportunity to work for Enjoy on a higher level," Ms. Johnson said. "I have been a color and style educator for the company since 2009 and now I get to take our training material and my personal experiences to other hairdressers that are just starting their careers.''

As part of her new position, Ms. Johnson will have to take the newest products, tools and programs to salons across the country to ensure that Enjoy's educational materials are helping in real world situations.

Although she will be doing work across the country starting this spring, Johnson also focuses on education at her own salon. Recently, Forbici Hair Design hosted a field trip for the current cosmetology students at the local Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Hewes Educational Center in Ashville. Students were able to meet the hairdressers at Forbici, develop future career goals and learn how to use their education at BOCES in a professional work environment.

"They asked me to host the field trip this year because of what I was able to accomplish coming out of their program," Ms. Johnson said. "There were a lot of bright, young minds in that classroom and it wasn't too long ago that I was in their shoes. I'm honored to help the next industry leaders find their success."
