To the Readers' Forum:
The ''Honorable'' Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor says she doesn't see the big deal about people lying about their military medals. She says it is no worse than a man lying to a woman on a date. Maybe it is just me, but I find it ironic that a person who is called ''honorable'' or ''your honor'' all day has no understanding, whatsoever, of the word honor.
I wonder if it is because she never served in the military. Honor should mean something to everyone, especially to those who sit on the highest court in the land. She clearly doesn't understand the sacrifices made by those soldiers, sailors and airmen who truly earned medals for valor. I wonder if that is because she has not given of herself in the same way as have veterans. She has not given years of her life and born witness to the types of sacrifices made by those who earned medals for valor.
I am flabbergasted and disgusted, but ... unfortunately, I am not surprised. She represents a portion of our society that is so far left that she can no longer see the middle. No matter what side of the aisle you are, you should not be so far left or right that you cannot see the middle. To do so is to lose touch with the ideals that has made this country great.
