We are just wondering how many of you were downtown Friday afternoon.
There were people everywhere. There was lots of traffic. Now while this kind of thing does have some inconvenience to it, it is overall a great thing. People everywhere. And you know what it simply makes you feel good. It makes you feel good about Jamestown.
We at DJDC would also like to remind you this Saturday, March 10, is our annual St Patrick's Day Celebration. You can go to our website and get all the details but we will be having our annual holiday parade at noon. The parade will proceed from Baker Park to Brooklyn Square where our now world famous Jamestown Leprechaun will turn the Chadakoin River green with a magic wave of his Shillelagh. There will be food and refreshments along with train and horse and carriage rides for the kids. We will have a coin hunt for our young children and will be giving away bikes for the different age categories. We have two new sponsors for the bicycle give away this year - Barmore Sellstrom and EMC Fin Tech - and we want to thank them very much. We want everyone to know they are invited to take part in the parade.
Then, of course, we have our annual "March of the Leprechaun" Pub Crawl. This year it will be a walking tour as we are just visiting taverns in the immediate downtown area. This event is sponsored by Arthur R. Gren and DJDC. The "line of march" will be The Cherry Lounge, The Pub, Shawbucks, Sully's and the Wine Cellar. There will be live Celtic entertainment at each of the locations and you will be able to view the Jamestown Ironmen hockey team in action from Sully's at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. Reservations are required and the $20 a person registration fee will get the participant a Pub Crawl T-shirt, mug and specials at each of the taverns. For more information on either event, call 664-2477 or go to the DJDC website at discoverjamestown.com.
Saturday, the Grow Jamestown Program held a "Thinking Spring" Garden Fair that was extremely successful at the Dr. Lillian Ney Renaissance Center. We want to congratulate Peter Lombardi of the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation for putting together this great Garden Fair. There were multiple exhibits that included local nurseries/landscapers, the Master Gardeners, the Jamestown Garden Club, Creating Healthy Places to Live and the Downtown Jamestown Farmers Market. This was extremely well attended and there were workshops on Garden Planting, Tree Maintenance, Landscaping and Backyard wildlife. We want to congratulate Peter and all those that helped him make this a successful event. Just another seed to help Jamestown grow.
On March 8, DJDC will be partnering with Time Warner Cable to have an informational seminar on digital marketing. It will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Renaissance Center, located at 119 to 121 W. Third St. We ask you to join us for a bite of breakfast and learn about free online marketing, Buffalo's digital landscape - what makes sense for your business, how your customers use digital products and results you should expect. There is limited seating, so reservations are required by calling 664-2477.
