Well, it was another great week in downtown Jamestown.
First of all we want to thank those involved with that great hockey tournament last weekend and Presidents Day. The Jamestown Savings Bank Arena is a great venue, but we also owe a big vote of thanks to Joe Hirliman and the Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association for their lead in producing this great tournament. They all deserve a real round of applause for all the work that went into this great tournament. It was a terrific hockey event and it was also terrific for downtown Jamestown and the entire surrounding region.
On Wednesday morning, the DJDC board of directors had their monthly meeting. We had a full board room as we planned for the future development of downtown Jamestown and the support of future development. This planning involves collaboration with the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation along with the city of Jamestown and our local foundations. There are many exciting activities on the horizon as we work collaboratively to achieve goals never before achieved. As many of you have heard me say Jamestown is doing things other communities are only starting to talk about.

On Thursday evening the Renaissance Center hosted the Chamber of Commerce and their annual Salute to the Finest. It is only fair that we salute some of the people and organizations who are making Jamestown the successful community it is. We can tell you we really appreciate all these people do for the community. I know these have been listed but I wanted to pay at least one more tribute to them - as they really are the finest. The list of our finest includes:
Pride of the Community - Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.
Our Leader in Community Service - Mike Metzger.
Fact Box
Downtown Chatter
Our Retailer of the Year - Framemasters.
Jamestown's Service to Humanity - All of our local foundations which include the Carnahan-Jackson Foundation, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Jessie Smith Darrah Fund, Gebbie Foundation, Holmberg Foundation, Hultquist Foundation, Johnson Foundation, Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation, Lenna Foundation, Winifred Crawford Dibert Foundation, Judith J. Anderson Foundation and the Cummins Foundation.
Our Business of the Year - Jamestown Rental Properties with Jody Peterson at the helm.
Our Manufacturer of the Year - Weber Knapp and complete local ownership.
Our Best New Business of the Year - the Jamestown Gazette.
What a legacy these people and organizations are leaving for the people of Jamestown. We would like to suggest if you see any of these people, or people who are involved with these organizations you give them a heartfelt thank you for their part in our great community of Jamestown.
The last thing I would like to mention this morning is DJDC is hosting the "Town Square" hosted by John Siggins every Friday afternoon from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The show is done live on WJTN radio. Many of you are aware this is a community show and it is also a call-in talk show. We would like to invite any of you who have interesting activities, events or just plain happenings and would like to let the community know about them to join us. We are hosting a positive show about our community and would like everyone to know they are welcome to join us for a part of the show. We would only ask you call and make a reservation so we know who will be attending and can plan accordingly.
As I said above we are now planning for the upcoming season. Please stay tuned and we will let you know what is happening in Jamestown. For more information please visit our website at discoverjamestown.com.
