Presbyterians Attend Conference In California

February 27, 2012
The Post-Journal

The Rev. Leslie Latham and Ruth Wahl recently attended the Scientists in Congregations Conference in Chico, Calif., representing the United Presbyterian Church of Randolph. The conference included a pastor and a scientist from each of 36 congregations in 25 states and three countries. The focus of the weeklong conference was the relationship of science and faith.

Authors Gregory Cootsona (''Creation'' and ''Last Things''), Karl W. Giberson (''Saving Darwin: How to Be a Christian and Believe in Evolution'' and ''The Language of Science and Faith'') and Robert John Russell (''Cosmology: From Alpha to Omega'') were keynote speakers.

The United Presbyterian Church held three workshops on cosmology in the fall and early winter. Several small groups are currently meeting and more workshops are planned for the spring. The third Sunday of each month has been designated Science Sunday, when the message and the music focus on the relationship of science and faith. A dinner meeting follows. The workshops are made possible through a John Templeton Foundation Grant. For more information on groups currently meeting, call the church at 358-4255.
