A surprise birthday party was held on Feb. 5 at the Chautauqua Fire Hall honoring Helen Mae Gleason's 95th birthday. All three of her children were in attendance from Florida and Indiana along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and more than 100 guests. She also celebrated her birthday at a family dinner held at LaScala on Feb. 7.

Mrs. Gleason was born on Feb. 7, 1917, the daughter of Alfred and Anna Jones. She married Donald Gleason on June 23, 1938, and they had three children: James of Mayville, Jane Ann of Indiana and David of Florida. They lived in the Stedman area until 1971 when they moved to Orlando, Fla. After Donald's passing in 1975, Helen remained in Florida until 2006. At that time, she went to live with her daughter and family in Elkhart, Ind. In October 2011, she moved to Lakewood and is now a resident at Emeritus of Lakewood. In addition to her three children, she has six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Helen cherishes her family and loves spending time with them and visiting with her friends. She enjoys a variety of activities at Emeritus, especially playing bingo and LCR. She likes crocheting, playing solitaire and solving word find puzzles. She is also an active member of the North Harmony Senior Citizens.
