Library To Host Book Discussions

The James Prendergast Library will host the first in a series of discussions of books focusing on Buddhist philosophy on Thursdays facilitated by Bruce Michaels and Helen Moore. The first discussion will be held from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 8, on the book "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron. Anyone attending should read the first four chapters of the book. Tree, Shrub Sale Under?Way

The Cattaraugus County Soil & Water Conservation District is accepting orders for the 2012 spring tree and shrub bare root seedling sale. Several species of conifers, hardwoods, shrubs and berries are available, as well as assortment packets for reforestation and wildlife. Orders are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until March 31. Seedlings will be distributed in April. To receive an order form, contact the conservation district office at 699-2326.

Outdoor Club To Hike Friday

WARREN - The Allegheny Outdoor Club will cross-country ski or hike in the Allegany State Park on Friday. Participants will meet at the warming hut in the Summit Area at 10 a.m. For more information call Pat Spicer at 814-757-8331 between 9 and 11 p.m. On Sunday, the AOC will cross-country ski or hike at the Jamestown Audubon Center. Participants will meet at the bulletin board in front of the main building at 2 p.m. For more information, call John Young at 814-730-2915.

Church To Host Special Service

First Presbyterian Church, 509 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown, will hold an Ash Wednesday service in Bellinger Chapel at noon today. The service will include the imposition of ashes and open communion. The Rev. Thomas A. Sweet will preach. Lunch follows in fellowship hall. Lenten services will be held at noon the next five Wednesdays during the Lenten season. The series title is "Faith After Fifty," with five members speaking on their faith in the second half of their lives.

Relay For Life Event Is March 10

FALCONER - A 300 Club fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Falconer Moose Club. Tickets are $20 per couple and includes dinner. Tickets can be purchased at the Falconer Moose or by calling 397-1894. The Relay For Life will be held May 19 at Frewsburg High School.

CWC?Cancels Ski Event

Due to the lack of snow, the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy has canceled its snowshoe/cross-country ski event that was scheduled for Saturday at its Randy Allan Hendrickson Preserve.
