Shingles Vaccine Available Soon
MAYVILLE - Johnson's Village Pharmacy, 99 E. Chautauqua St., Mayville, is sponsoring a Zostavax Shingles vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. Recently, the age guidelines have been lowered. Patients can now be age 50 and over to receive the vaccine. A registered nurse will be on hand to administer the immunizations. Appointments must be made in advance. Many insurance plans will cover the vaccine, including Medicare D plans. The price without insurance is $225. For more information or to make reservations, call the pharmacy at 753-3200. Those who have had chicken pox are more susceptible to getting the shingles virus. The immunization may reduce the incidence and severity of shingles outbreaks. The pharmacy will contact each patient's doctor and insurance to check coverage, so advance planning is needed.
