LAKEWOOD - The owners of Smart By Design are celebrating their second-year in business by expanding their showroom and teaming up with one of the area's oldest appliance dealers.
Smart By Design, located at 155 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, will open its newly expanded showroom on Wednesday featuring appliances from ACME The Appliance Store. To celebrate the collaboration, Mike and Kelly Vik, Smart By Design owners, will be offering discounts on their many lines of cabinets, vanities, hardware and doors.
''Opening the retail location in Lakewood was a good move for us. We had a hardwood shop in Jamestown before that, but we've done really well here,'' Vik said. ''The business has grown. We've expanded our product line.''

Smart By Design is a full- or semi-custom kitchen and bath retail store. The business specializes in cabinetry, appliances, countertops and moldings, just about anything needed for kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects. Along with offering an extensive product line, the store also offers the advice needed to do remodeling projects.
''We offer home consultations. We offer interior design advice for no charge,'' Vik said. ''We have 3-D software so people can see how a design will look. We offer the products and the advice to get the job done. We want to make the customer happy.''
Vik said teaming up with ACME The Appliance Store was an easy decision because he had worked at the business for eight years and knows the owners, Dan and Beth Hocking. Hocking said adding his inventory from ACME, which is located at 1286 E. Second St., Jamestown, into the new expanded showroom at Smart By Design now gives him two locations, which makes shopping for name-brand appliances easier for his customers.
''This adds convenience for people that live in the Lakewood area that want to buy ACME appliances, but don't want to travel to our Second Street location,'' he said. ''People can get expert advice from Mike (Vik) and a quality appliance from ACME. Now, (they're) both in the same location.''
Hocking said ACME offers same day or next day deliver for no extra charge. Also, the business can usually receive parts within a day to offer quick service for customers. ACME has been locally owned and operated for more than 52 years.
Smart By Design is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
