Montessori Students Learn About Faith In Atrium Class

January 29, 2012
The Post-Journal

Our Montessori students in Pre-K through second grade have a unique way of learning about our faith. Each week, the students have an option to attend atrium class. This is a special class that follows the Montessori Method of teaching. It uses the curriculum found in the book, ''Listening to God with Children - The Montessori Method Applied to the Catechesis of Children'' by Gianna Gobbi. The children are given a lesson using lifelike items they would see in their church. Then the children are able to use the items in a hands on way to reinforce what they have learned. The lessons revolve around Bible stories and parables. The program teaches children tolerance of others and their belief systems and love for one another.
