Memories From ‘The Real’ Brooklyn Square

January 28, 2012
The Post-Journal

Roland Swanson of Poland dropped off this photo along with the accompanying message:?''Readers of The Post-Journal can provide information regarding folks in this photo, no doubt. The photo brought back many fond memories of years gone-by. This yuletide greeting was extended by the Brooklyn Square (the real Brooklyn Square) employees of the Loblaws store. Those days, many stores closed at noon on Wednesdays and all day Sundays. Still, folks survived! Guy and I recall names of some of these folks, such as Bartoldson, ''Newsie,'' Avor Farm, Featherstone, Doris Gustafson, Peggy Holt and Nancy Tedquist. Avor became a store manager on Prendergast Avenue (present site of the Geer-Dunn Company), Peggy introduced Doris and me and we eventually married in 1952. We think this photo was from between 1948 and 1950. If readers are able to identify an individual, contact Guy Glace at 488-9337 or Roland Swanson 665-5969. Thanks for permitting us to share thoughts of a bustling hub of Jamestown's past.''
