Westfield Seniors Gather For Christmas Luncheon

December 30, 2011
The Post-Journal

Westfield Senior Citizens gathered on Thursday, Dec. 13, at noon for the group's annual Christmas celebration.

The group assembled in the Community Room of the YWCA and enjoyed a ham luncheon, catered by Quagliana's Bark Grill. The tables were decorated in a Christmas theme, done by Gladys Hess. The entire YWCA had readied itself with a holiday theme.

A brief meeting was conducted by President Shirley Kolpien, and she led the group in the pledge to the flag and the singing of ''God Bless America.'' Afterward, the secretary's and treasurer's reports were given and approved.

The 50-50 drawing was won by Pat Everts and the door prize was awarded to Rita Hoth.

Sunshine Chairman Pat Everts reported that a get-well card was sent to Angelo ''Tort'' Gervasi. Birthday greetings went out to Darla Augur, Salley Merwin, Betty Wilson, Erma Lloyd, Ralph Wakeley, Christ VeStrand and Newell Near. Celebrating their anniversary in December were Dan and Gladys Hess. It was further noted that Delores Kaufman, Pat Smith and the Bova family all received sympathy cards for the loss of their loved ones. The group was encouraged to stop by Mason Funeral Home and pay respect to longtime member Dorothy Bova, whose funeral would be the next day.

The annual installation of officers was conducted for 2012. Installed were Shirley Kolpien, president; Audrey Wilkerson, vice president; Sylvia Colby, secretary; and Dolores Kaufman, treasurer. President Kolpien announced her new chairmen: Gladys Hess, kitchen chairman; Joyce Wainwright, chaplain; Pat Everts, sunshine chairman; and Trudy Stafford, program chairman. Art Kinney will again serve as representative on the Chautauqua County United Senior Council.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 12, at noon in the Community Room of the Westfield YWCA and it will be a tureen luncheon with each member bringing a dish for the table. The kitchen/dessert committee will be Gladys Hess, Jean Stebell, Carol Young, Darla Augur and Fran Anderson.

After the meeting there will be a time of bingo and members are requested to bring an item for the prize table.

The meeting was closed by the saying of the senior adult prayer, led by Shirley Kolpien.
