Gabriella Herring, a fifth-grader at Foster Elementary School in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., introduces her grandfather, Bill Evans of Lakewood, as the guest speaker for her school's annual Veterans Day flag-raising event. Evans, a West Point graduate who served in the U.S. Army for five years, spoke to the students and guests about what it means to be a veteran. Gabriella is the daughter of Nathan and Elissa Herring, both formerly of Lakewood.
