During the days and weeks leading up to Halloween, many of us get our fix of scares within the walls of our own homes. We sit down on our couches, turn on AMC or Syfy and shriek every time we feel frightened. That plan works well for many, but those who would rather change out of their pajamas and scream for a good cause will probably find their way to the Pintagro building in downtown Jamestown during one of the remaining October weekends. Terror Within The Walls has opened its third annual haunted house, and those who attend might just sleep with their lights on after they make it through.
The building will open up its doors Friday and Saturday from 7-11 p.m. Admission will be $5. As always, proceeds from Terror Within The Walls will benefit a charity. This year, all proceeds will go to the Western New York chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and attendees will see something a little different than they have in years past. "We like to switch it up every year," said Shaun Ohrn, organizer of Terror Within The Walls. "We try to change up the themes."
For the third annual event, Ohrn looked to implement a more realistic haunted house atmosphere with the theme "The Haunted Mansion."

"It's more like a house this year. We have just about every room you could have in a house to make it that much more realistic," he said. "It's a little more spooky. People should feel a little more scared when the get home."
Those who attend will experience scare tactics from a man who has spooked area residents for more than just a few years. Ohrn and two other organizers previously held an annual haunted house event at the Vikings Club. However, they made the switch to the Pintagro building two years ago, and Ohrn has since taken over most of the organizational duties. With a little help from some volunteers, Ohrn handled most of the planning for "The Haunted Mansion."
Thus far, his efforts have paid off. The 2011 edition of the haunted house has yet to disappoint, according to Ohrn.
As its name implies, Terror Within The Walls caused a fair amount of fright during its opening weekend of 2011 on Oct. 14 and 15. "People are definitely getting scared," Ohrn said. "People have said ours is a lot scarier than some of the others in the area. We have had great feedback so far, and (we) hope to scare many more."
Community support has been great in previous years and so far in 2011, according to Ohrn. "They've been great," he said of the supporters. "During the year, a lot of people have been asking if we were going to do another one of these. A lot of people who have been through have said this is the best year yet."
In addition to Friday and Saturday, the haunted house will open on Oct. 28 and 29 from 7-11 p.m. and on Oct. 30 and 31 from 7-10 p.m. The Pintagro building is located at 14 E. Second St., Jamestown.
