Church To Hold Pet Blessing Sunday

September 30, 2011
The Post-Journal

BEMUS POINT - All of God's creatures and their human owners are invited to a blessing of the animals service at 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 3748 Route 430, Bemus Point.

Each pet will be individually blessed at the service and dog and cat treats will be provided. Weather permitting, the blessing will take place in the outdoor courtyard behind the church building. All pets must be appropriately restrained and all are welcome to attend.

Sunday was chosen as the date of this blessing of the animals to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi, who was born in Italy in 1182 and was now for his love of animals and care for all of creation. The church commemorates his life and ministry each year on Oct. 4.
