NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - After regulation ended without a goal by either side, Fredonia State defeated the Westminster Titans when Ryan O'Donnell converted on a penalty kick in the 93rd minute to seal a 1-0 win.
O'Donnell's penalty kick deflected off the outstretched arms of Westminster senior goalkeeper Mike Codita before trickling in on the left side for the game-winner.
The Devils improve to 4-6 overall and the Titans fall to 1-6-2.
Blue Devil goalkeeper Bobby McGinnis saw little action in the first half, making only one save. The Fredonia State offense took five shots on Westminster netminder Codita in the first half, only two of which were on goal.
The second half opened with multiple shots on goal for Fredonia State, but still could not find the back of the net. Senior captain Stephen Ahern provided some excitement in the 68th minute when he fired a strike off the crossbar. However, neither team manufactured a goal in regulation, though the Devils did take 10 shots in the second half.
Fredonia State took little time in the overtime period to score as O'Donnell scored his team leading fifth goal of the season on the penalty kick. The Devils outshot the home team, 16-8.
The Blue Devils return to action for Homecoming Weekend as they take on Hobart at 3 p.m. on Saturday at University Stadium.
