Lady Eagles hold off Lady PanthersSeptember 28, 2010
RIPLEY — It took five games, but Ripley (1-5, 2-8) held on to beat Pine Valley (1-3, 3-4) in non-league high school girls’ volleyball, 25-13, 25-19, 15-25, 26-28 and 25-11.
“It was a great effort by both teams,” Ripley coach Kathy Machemer said. “The Ripley girls came together and wanted to win tonight.”
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles, Maggie Hammond had 18 service points with seven aces, five digs and one kill while teammate Nicole Grien had 17 service points with six aces and one block. Also playing well were Makenzie Mencer with seven kills and one block and Emily Trevelline with three assists, two kills and one ace.
Playing hard for the Lady Panthers, Chelsea Farley had 15 service points with four aces and Emily Scott had 13 points with nine aces and three kills. Additionally, Kayla Mansfield had eight service points with two aces and three kills, Kaylee Mathews had 10 kills and two aces and Carlye Swanson recorded 95 sets.
Ripley’s jayvee team also won its match, 3-1.
